This self-assessment site has been prepared, under the direction of Professor Ric van Noort, by Dr Michele Barbour.
Michele is Senior Lecturer in Biomaterials at the University of Bristol Dental School. She obtained her first degree in physics from the University of Oxford in 1998, and her PhD from the University of Bristol in 2002. Michele teaches dental biomaterials to undergraduate and postgraduate students and has won three major university awards for her innovative and engaging teaching and assessments.
Michele is also head of the Oral Nanoscience Research Group at the University of Bristol. Her group is engaged in a number of projects to investigate the application of nanotechnology to dental and biomedical materials. Recent undertakings include the development of antimicrobial nanoparticles for use in glass ionomer cements and dental implants.
